Today I’m going to share with you my thrift store dresser makeover. You may remember the chest of drawers I bought at a thrift store that I shared in my post ‘11 Things to Buy at a Thrift Store‘. After several months of this big, ugly dresser sitting in our living room, my husband finally started to work on it. And not because I wouldn’t. He actually wanted to tackle this project all on his own. He spotted this chest of drawers at our favorite thrift shop and told me he wanted it to be his project. I was weary but agreed to get it and he actually finished it! I did paint one of the drawers and I distressed it a tad, but the rest was all him. I’m really proud of him for spending so much time and doing such a great job transforming it. Here’s a comparison picture:
It looks completely different and I just love the colors he picked out: Annie Sloan chalk paint in Burgundy and Cream. These are the perfect Christmas colors for a December furniture flip.
The knobs and pulls were purchased at Hobby Lobby and were half off! I love the glass knobs on the top drawers–they complement the dark brass pulls so well.
When I opened the can of Burgundy paint I was a little freaked out because it looked so pink. However, it dried to this gorgeous deep red.
We did not use wax on this project and instead sealed it with Minwax Polycrylic Protective Finish in Clear Satin.
I hope this inspires you to do your own furniture flip. Make sure to share with me when you’re finished 🙂
