Hey guys! I’m sorry I haven’t been posting as often lately. Life is crazy right now and I feel like I don’t have time for anything anymore. My husband is working crazy-long hours every week so my “me time” is limited. I hope to at least post once a week though. Today I’m going to share with you some of my favorite things from this week. I love doing these ‘Friday Favorites’ because it kind of forces me to reflect on some of the things I am grateful for right now, even though life feels like it’s harder than ever. Sometimes awesome things can be overlooked or overshadowed by the difficult parts of life. I know I tend to forget, or just not think about the great things going on in my life when things are stressful or I have a crazy-busy schedule (like right now). So, I feel like these Friday favorites are extra important for me to do. Here goes…
This hutch is kind of a dresser–this dresser is kind of a hutch. Whatever it is, I love it. I decided to take a mid-day, mid-week trip to my favorite thrift store this week and I found a couple of really cool things. One was this hutch. Right when Finley, my little one, had had just about all he could take and I knew my thrift shopping trip was about over, I decided to stroll through the furniture section one last time and spotted this beauty hidden right in plain sight. I snatched it up, brought it home, cleaned it up, and now it’s ready for a makeover. I cannot wait to get started.
What’s the cliché? One man’s junk is another’s treasure? Change the man to wo-man and yep, this applies to me. I found these children’s wall prints at the bottom of a picture frame bin at the same thrift store and immediately knew they would be perfect for my 4 year old, Patrick’s room. They are in perfect condition. All I have to do is reframe and hang them. Wall decor can be expensive and I got all four of these prints for $3.10! Yes! Thrifty mama scores again. 😉
I am so excited to share that as of last weekend, I was down eight pounds. I only weigh myself on the weekends so I’m due for another weigh-in soon but I couldn’t be happier with my results. Some days are hard and all I want are donuts and pasta (my favorite yet totally unhealthy foods in the entire universe) but each day that goes by things get a little easier. My body has gotten used to eating smaller portions and less daily calories so what used to be so hard really isn’t that bad anymore. Patrick and Finley. They, of course, always get a spot on my ‘Friday Favorites’ post because they are the little loves of my life. Finley has officially entered the terrible twos scary/crazy zone that makes every sweet baby turn into a complete monster that you don’t know what to do with and sometimes (ok, a lot of the time) even cry over. And he is kicking my butt…but…he’s gone now 3 full days without a pacifier–and he was a total paci-junkie so 3 days is amazing. That kid would suck on that thing for the rest of his life if we let him. He’ll be two in almost two months so we decided it was time to get rid of it. And honestly, it hasn’t been that bad at all. I’m actually shocked at how easy it’s been. Thank God.
As for Patrick, he’s smarter than I am. And he’s 4. I don’t know where he comes up with the things that flow out of his mouth but he shocks me on the daily. He is so inquisitive and has more eloquence than most adults. Plus he is the most creative kid I’ve met and yes, I know I’m incredibly bias but still, even the lady cutting his hair couldn’t believe the things he said to her and the questions he asked. She asked if he was going to be some kind of engineer. I sure have high hopes for him. His whole life he has been so stubborn and at times, more difficult than I ever thought my child could be, but so curious and intelligent. And he’s got soul. That kid is a dreamer just like his mama. He’s one of those kids you have to hope uses his super powers to make the world around him better, and not worse.
A Clean House
Our apartment complex did one of their yearly inspections this week which is always a pain in the butt but it actually forced us to get in some overdue deep-cleaning. We spent a good few hours scrubbing our apartment top to bottom and it feel so good to have a clean house. And I mean really clean–not the kinda cleaning you do in the 10 minutes after you find out someone will be stopping by your house any minute. Thank God my husband is a good cleaner…he’s probably a better cleaner than I am. :/ Anyway, “there’s nothing more amazing than climbing into a bed with clean sheets”–I believe those were my last words as my head hit my clean pillow last night.
I hope you all had an amazing week. Please share some of your favorite things/people/events from this week with me too.
