One gift I love giving my kids are board games! This may mostly be because I really enjoy board games and always have. But my kids seem to enjoy the fun too. We’ve adopted a family game night at our house every week or so and we all really enjoy spending quality time together learning and playing. Even after our kids are in bed my husband and I have our “game time” in which we get super competitive and fight tooth and nail to beat each other at our favorite board games. Since Christmas recently passed and my kids got several new board games for Christmas and we have all been terribly sick, it seems as if we have been playing board games non-stop. But that’s ok 😉 because I love board games.
I thought I would share a few of my favorite classic board games with you just in case you’re a board game lover yourself and you’re looking for new games.
Get all three of your pawns around the board and safely back home to win the game. Be careful of getting bumped back to start by the other players! A great game for ages 6+
A fun game for the little ones! Get your gingerbread man through Candy land and to the King’s candy castle to win the game. Make a stop or two on the way at Nana’s nut house or the Peppermint forest but…oops! Be careful not to get stuck in the Licorice Lagoon. A great game for ages 3+ (my four-year-old loves this game).
One of our personal favorites–Find out who did it, the weapon they used, and in which room the crime was committed. Pay close attention to the clues your opponents may be giving away. The recommended age is 8+ however, I think it’s best for kids at least 12 years of age.
Whip out your English skills! This is a great date night game. *For a kids’ version, check out scrabble junior.* Make a crossword while creating words using your seven letters. Consonants are worth most. Play on double and triple word and letter scores to maximize your points!
Spin the wheel and make decisions to see where life takes you. Go to college, get a job, have a kid, even win the lottery. Expect the unexpected. Finish the game with the most retirement money to win the game. Great for ages 8+
